Glass artist Dale Chihuly, who has been collecting objects from the mid-20th century since he was a boy, now has a place to display them: at the restaurant attached to his new Chihuly Garden and Glass complex adjacent to the Space Needle in Seattle.
The restaurant, appropriately named Collections Cafe, showcases vintage accordions and vintage radios, plus shadow boxes cut into every table featuring even more of his smaller collectibles. On the back wall are 36 of Chihuly’s drawings, creating a space as bright and as colorful as Chihuly’s glass.
The menu, from chefs Jeff Maxfield and Ivan Szilak, in collaboration with chef Jason Wilson of CRUSH, celebrates fresh, local food. A group of area ranchers, fishermen, foragers and farmers supply the ingredients for such menu items as Polly Creek razor clams, Carlton Farms pork chops with apricot barbecue glaze, Draper Valley Chicken breast, and roasted Yakima asparagus.
A handpicked selection of craft beers, including Westport Dungeness Dark Ale and Snoqualmie Wildcat IPA, and an extensive wine list emphasizing West Coast wines are also available.
